Let’s talk PETA

You may have noticed that the haircare brands you stock in the salon boast a PETA certification. But do you know what this means? PETA, i.e. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is an animal rights organisation certifying cruelty-free companies that do not test on animals. PETA focuses on four areas of animal cruelty: Testing in laboratories, the food industry, the clothing trade and the entertainment business. PETA works through research, education, reporting, animal rescue, legislation, events and protests. It’s a safe and easy way for professionals and consumers to know which products are not harmful to animals (in their making).

Some of the brands with PETA

KMS

Recently, KMS acquired PETA accreditation, joining a large community of certified haircare brands. Well done KMS, this is undoubtedly an achievement we can get behind! KMS says it is thrilled to join the PETA approved list, helping shoppers worldwide make conscious choices for their beauty products.

This certification recognises that KMS (and suppliers) don’t conduct, commission, pay for, or allow any tests on animals. This includes testing for ingredients, formulations or finished products worldwide.

Joico

With great joi, we report that haircare brand Joico is also PETA certified. So, PETA verifies that Joico does not conduct, pay for, or allow any tests on animals. Rest assured Joico-lovers, your client’s hair, and the animals, are safe and sound. If you want to know more about Joico’s PETA certification click HERE

Collinge & Co

Collinge & Co recently picked up five awards at the 2023 Veggie Awards, so perhaps it’s no surprise that the brand is PETA-approved. Products are cruelty-free and suitable for vegans.

Collinge & Co is part of PETA’s Global Beauty Without Bunnies program and is registered on PETA’s Global animal test–free and vegan list.

Kevin.Murphy

Good news, Kevin.Murphy is ‘tested on models, not animals’! Kevin.Murphy and Color.Me colour products are certified by PETA as one of their recommended ‘Cruelty Free’ brands. Also, we all recognise a KM product by the square bottles, right? Did you know…the thinking for the square bottles is that they hold more volume per pack and fit better into the shipping boxes? We love this idea. This results in more product per plastic used and less wasted ‘air space’ in the cartons. If you’re interested in sustainability at Kevin.Murphy, click HERE

Paul Mitchell

For Paul Mitchell lovers, you’ll be pleased to know the brand has supported PETA’s efforts to end animal testing for many years. In 1989, they became the first haircare company to publicly oppose animal testing when signing PETA’s statement of assurance, pledging never to test its products on animals. Amazing work indeed. Authentic Beauty Concept

Authentic Beauty Concept is a vegan, planet-friendly, and, importantly, PETA-approved brand! Sustainability has always been a subject that’s close to Authentic Beauty Concept. It prides itself on being a brand that’s committed to developing sustainable practices. It wants to bring a consciously sustainable lifestyle into focus, and we applaud. Session Label

Schwarzkopf Professional

Schwarzkopf Professional is officially PETA-approved. It understands that these days consumers are super-concerned with hair brands that have values which are consistent with their own. So, if your clients love a good dose of Session Label and love the planet, they can sleep soundly tonight.

Alterna

Is Alterna cruelty-free? PETA thinks so! You’ll be happy to hear that Alterna’s cruelty-free product line is officially PETA-approved. Alterna believes that even the highest-performing haircare products don’t need to be tested on animals, so it doesn’t. Interested in Alterna’s crultey-free beauty? Click HERE
