It’s your choice

It’s a duty for all of us to be active in reducing harm to the environment, both as part of the hairdressing industry, and as global citizens. The brands who make up our community are increasingly aware and dynamic in helping us make changes, and Kevin Murphy is a leading force for good. Kevin takes his personal campaign brand-wide in championing the call to reduce the hairdressing industry’s carbon footprint, and the Kevin.Murphy label is now synonymous with the call of an eco-warrior.

Attention to climate change, the preservation of natural environments and a sustainable supply chain are top priority in both the job of producing premium hair products, and wider-reaching campaigns to effect change. At the very least, you should look for Ammonia- and PPD-free product with 10o% recyclable outer packaging. Add in products formulated using naturally-derived ingredients and that’s a big tick for Kevin.Murphy. In fact, working with the Kevin.Murphy brand is your message to clients that you do care about the carbon footprint of your hairdressing.

Naturally Derived Ingredients

Kevin murphyAll Kevin.Murphy products are made with natural ingredients from sources that are sustainable, renewable and harvested utilising methods that do not cause any harm to the environment. The brand’s pledge is impressive. It reads: “We create products with a conscience that does no harm to our environment by utilising packaging that is recyclable or biodegradable. We use only sulphate-free surfactants that effectively cleanse and remove surface oil and dirt, without stripping or depleting the hair of its colour. We use AHAs, or fruit acids, derived from Papaya, Citrus, and Sugar Cane that gently exfoliate the hair surface without drying or depleting the hair. Natural surfactants from the Soap Bark Tree, Quillaja, and other plant-derived sources create rich luxurious lathers that moisturise and nourish the hair.”

Even the colour portfolio is thoughtful and gentle: The Color.Me range is ammonia-free, and uses a gentle Rose Hip fragrance, making it a much more pleasant experience (and smell) for both the client and the hairdresser.

Ethical and conscientious

Tested on models, not animals! Kevin.Murphy and Color.Me colour products are are certified by PETA as one of their recommended ‘Cruelty Free’ brands. We all recognise a KM product by the square bottles right? The thinking for the square bottles are that they hold more volume per pack, and fit better into the shipping boxes resulting in more product per plastic used, and less wasted ‘air space’ in the cartons. There is plenty of support for you in helping to reduce, reuse and recycle in the salon – you can find the Green.Salon tool on the Kevin site. It’s a useful way to check your practices. From sugarcane bowl liners (made from 100% reusable sugar cane fibre) to a color.wheel tube roller to squeeze every last drop of ammonia- and PPD-free colour out of the tube… Kevin.Murphy things about the planet.
