Adele Clarke, salon owner of Spectrum Hair and OSMO ambassador has shared what colour trends we should expect to see this spring/summer. There’s nothing like a pretty pastel to get us in the mood for warmer weather.
What pastel/bright shades do you think will be big in 2022 S/S?
For our pastel bleach and toned clients, of all genders, you will begin to see a lean towards a violet hue to the pinks, rose golds and silvers that we all know and love. Very Peri being Pantone colour of the year, has been a popular influence in so many areas and the hair world has embraced the trend with open arms.
This tone by any means is not confined to the daring edgy corner of the market. The glam glossy big blow-out gals want a piece of the action too and it’s easier than you imagine achieving both in the salon, or at home. Simply try mixing a small amount of OSMO Steel Grey & Violet Colour Revive (£13.95 each) either neat to your hair or mix it into your regular conditioner for a more subtle effect, which will give a gorgeous taster of this look.
How would you transition from an old vibrant faded colour to the new SS22 pastel effectively?
This one particular example is a client with fine, delicate hair which she loves to regularly colour with differing, vibrant shades. She wanted a dramatic change from a blue shadow root to silver. So my main challenge was the teal residue. Roots were concentrated with OSMO IKON Power Lift with 20 vol with OSMO CHROMAPLEX™ Bond Builder #1. After a period of 25 minutes, a good clean level 9 had been achieved. Then I water sprayed the hair down and pulled the bleach onto the blue shade for approximately 5 minutes which faded out well. I then applied roots of 40mlsOSMO IKON 10.2 + 10mls OSMO IKON 8.2 with 1.5% vol. As a result, colours of Lilac and Pearl melted into equal parts of the mid-lengths and ends. At the backwash, I then applied OSMO Violet Colour Revive at the root area blending into OSMO Silver Colour Psycho with a small amount of OSMO Slate Colour Revive. The pinkish nature of the OSMO IKON .2 (the .2 Violet in OSMO IKON isn’t very blue in colour) and the OSMO Violet Colour Revive neutralised and covered the pale teal residue very well, whilst offering the client’s hair longevity and coverage. The client was advised to purchase OSMO Colour Care sulphate free shampoo plus the OSMO Silverising Mask and OSMO Deep Repair Moisture Spray for continued care of her colour at home.
The big blow out is going to be big this SS? Why is that and how do you create the perfect at-home blowout?
Interesting, the days of the salon weekly blow-dry seem to be returning, hurrah! With the lockdowns behind us and the need to venture back into the world again, socially and at work, this quick and fairly inexpensive way of boosting our confidence is as popular as ever. But for those home birds who would like to create the look themselves there are so many great styling tools such as the blow dry brush gadgets that curl and dry in one, big hot brushes, wands, and rollers that the task has never been better catered for. As with anything it’s all about the prep and foundation so ensure you’re using the right products – the OSMO Wonder 10 (£12.90) is the ultimate go-to for our customers as it literally does everything you need to get a great blow out at home.
What’s the 2022 Hair Cut of the Year going to be?
Cut wise keep your eyes peeled for tousled undone finishes on shapes like the jawline French Bob, lived in Pixie cuts – Bixie, as it’s fast being known as. The disconnected Wolf/Shag/Mullets are here to stay but progressing into the Octopus with that little more tendrils’ technique coming through. OSMO Power Powder (£8.70) is a must for all these looks as it’s that effortless volume you need to achieve the styles.
How do you adapt celebrity/catwalk trends to your local customer base?
A great way to inspire your clients to adopt some of these trends is to work with your team to create easy to entice versions of the looks. When it’s quiet in the salon, get your team to recreate looks on each other, capture it for social and start sharing our trends can be adapted to everyday, wearable looks. People often don’t know what they want until they see it – so this is a great way to encourage your clients to try something new.
