In Lotus, hairdresser Candice McKay gives us accomplished, sophisticated images of avant-garde ideas translated into accessible, consumer hair. In this time of uncertainty, hardship and loss, we look to the symbol of the lotus flower to give us solace and hope, says Candice. We’re comforted and excited at these excellent photographs – courtesy of Justin Dingwall.
The lotus flower has an extraordinary lifecycle! In the night it lies hidden in the water, latched to mud, in complete darkness. Then when the sun rises, so does the flower, miraculously re-blooming, sparkling clean. It’s why the lotus is associated with life, death and re-emergence. Candice uses the flower to represent our ability to come from a place of suffering into the light. Like the lotus rises through the water to the light, we too can rise up from difficulty and reconnect to the light that surrounds us.
