Taking it back to the 90’s with HairCon

Dig out your old bomber, slip on your wide-leg jeans and pop in a scrunchie, new professional hair festival, HairCon is taking us back to the 90s with its twist on iconic BBC TV makeover show, Style ChallengeWe can’t wait!

HairCon

The deets

Taking place from June 22 to 24 in the iconic O2 Victoria Warehouse in Manchester, HairCon promises to be an unforgettable experience with a mind-blowing line-up of artists, including Jack & The Wolfe, Errol Douglas, Heffy, SLK Bleach, and Desmond Murray along with the legendary barber heroes Alan Beak, Cal Newsome and Josh Lamonaca. The festival organisers warn to prepare for your perceptions of both the industry and your business to be completely transformed by immersive stage sessions, evening shows and entertainment, which will in equal parts inspire and revitalise your passion.

Style Challenge

For those who need a re-fresh (or aren’t old enough to remember), Style Challenge was a BBC1 daytime make-over show from the 90s. Participants had a clothes, hair and make-up makeover and the key format point was a revolving mirror, meaning that the participants couldn’t see their transformation until the very end of the show.

But that was then…

HairCon is bringing back Style Challenge but with a difference as they remodel the concept. Sponsored by the Fellowship, the focus is now on the hairdresser not the contestant. Industry giants of all ages will race against the clock – demonstrating the talent and vision that makes them global, social or education leaders. Be prepared for uber cool transformations and unexpected collaborations.

Bringing it back to 2024

Jane Galpin, HairCon show director and fashion producer of the original Style ChallengeTV show says. “Style Challenge was ground-breaking back at the time bringing stylists such as Anthony Mascolo, Trevor Sorbie, Andrew Barton, Errol Douglas, Nicky Clarke and Beverly C straight into people’s homes. Many of those who took part went on to launch their own product lines and gain global success. It’s so exciting that we get to give it a whole new spin with the Fellowship.

TikTok challenge

Ahead of the festival, HairCon has also launched a one-minute hair-up challenge on TikTok for a chance to win a slot on stage at the event. To enter simply create a one-minute up do (no edits) post to TikTok or Instagram using #hairconstylechallenge and #fellowshiphair. If on Insta also tag @hairconshow @fellowshiphair
