Summer hair trends with Jake Nugent

Jake Nugent, colour expert and Osmo ambassador runs through summer hair trends. You can use these as inspiration in the salon to help your clients welcome summer. With the days warm and long, clients will be wanting to ramp up their summer styles for garden parties and picnics. You can help them by sharing these four looks. Read on for a breakdown.

Jake says: “I think 2023 is more about low maintenance and subtle tonal changes. I think we’re going to see more tiramisu and candlelit brunette trends, which are lower maintenance than traditional colouring. I also believe we are going to see more extreme versions of current trends, like the money piece that’s going to get thicker and more obvious. I’m finding that every six weeks or so, clients want their ‘money-pieces’ thicker than the last time. I expect we’ll be seeing more panelling, especially over Instagram, as well as stripes.”

Tiramisu

Colour: Tiramisu

Jake predicts tiramisu will be a popular summer hair colour. Tiramisu comprises three shades of brown: warm tan with a yellow undertone, deep warm brown, and light brown with gold reflect. The trend also features a shadowed root or a root smudge, where the highlights are lightly painted over with a shade closer to your client’s natural colour. This subtly blends dark and light, for a natural and low-maintenance look. Jake says your clients should use hair masks at least once or twice weekly. Recommend: Osmo Deep Moisture Intensive Deep Repair Mask.

Candlelit brunette

Colour: Candlelit brunette

Candlelit brunette uses subtle baby lights to lift dark hair and give it a warm glow. Jake says this is perfect for helping clients achieve a warmer look. Jake says this technique and face-framing highlights create reflective hair. It’s a soft look, so use minimal colour. Candlelit brunette is also an excellent but low-maintenance way to mix up your brunette clients’ hair. Suggest the Osmo Blinding Shine range to clients so they can keep their hair healthy and hydrated.

Balayage and the Money-piece

Colour: Balayage and the Money-piece

As well as a balayage, Jake says bold, blonde money-pieces will trend all summer long. Jake says his clients have wanted bolder blonde pieces around their faces, which is a great look for anyone with a grown-out balayage. Adding a money piece will refresh your clients’ balayage- ideal. Recommend the Osmo Super Silver No Yellow Shampoo for clients with this style to keep their hair on point between salon visits.

Beach waves

Style: Beach waves

Jake says that recently he has been educating clients on beach waves and mermaid waves. To create beach or mermaid waves on your client, use Osmo Matte Salt Spray and Osmo Extreme Extra Firm Hairspray. These two products will create long-lasting waves, perfect for summer.
