With almost 30 years of hairdressing experience, we’re confident Karen Douglas knows a thing on two; particularly about Avlon products.
At the age of 19, with a hairdressing qualification under her belt, Karen packed her bags and headed for London; on the hunt for career opportunities that just weren’t available in her hometown in Bristol. Her incredible work ethic paid off. A year later Karen was managing a team in a salon, the salon that introduced her to Avlon products – Expression in Hair. Just four years later Karen and another stylist found themselves in a position to take over the business; making a huge success of it for a whopping 21 years!
Fast forward 23 years and Karen is now working freelance. Karen parted ways with the salon back in 2019 and says “In that time I had many great experiences, team members and the most amazing loyal clients; some who are still with me today. When I had the salon I carried a few ranges of products, but since working independently, I’m mainly using Avlon products. The reason being that there is something for every hair type and texture. Something I’ve found many ranges do not have.”
With the help of her amazing assistant, Karen now works more closely with clients, allowing her to offer a more personal service. She now spends more time on getting to know their hair and supplying them with the best possible products. By executing this way of working Karen became fascinated with the impact that nutrition, trauma, menopause and scalp conditions had on the hair. Leading Karen back into education, as she embarks on her trichology studies. The soon-to-be Trichologist says, “I would like to be able to solve my clients hair problems, whilst maintaining their hair.”
Kbox
During lockdown, Karen found a new way of working. As she stands by her mantra that good products make for good hair, Kboxes were born – a hair care package box filled with products suitable for the clients hair type. Following a virtual consultation, Karen had all the information she needed to form a bespoke Kbox – of course, the Avlon range had a huge part to play.
