Festivals aren’t just about the music, they provide an opportunity to be bold and embrace your own unique-style. For us this means trying out some of the latest hair techniques and playing around with colour and accessories and we bet your clients are looking to you for inspo!
Here’s a few trends to look out for this year courtesy of JOICO’s Gill Berry, as well as some must have products and top tips for styling festival hair in your salon. Make sure you share your knowledge with clients before they head off to their favourite festival this summer.
Bubble braids
“This look is both practical and fashionable,” says Gill. “It’s a great style to opt for on day two or three of the festival as it takes the hair away from the face. The key to nailing this trend is to create a relaxed feel to the style. The beauty of it is that it doesn’t have to be too neat and perfected. Embrace flyaways and texture for an on trend vibe. Use clear elastics to create the bubble effect. A look best paired with fashionable bangs to frame the face.”
Space buns
“Space buns are a classic style we have seen for many years now and they aren’t going anywhere in 2024,” suggests Gill. “This style is really playful and fun and can be tailored to suit the individual’s style. Secure the hair in two sections centered at the crown of your head and wrap the hair round the ponytail, then secure and manipulate the hair into shape before locking it in with your favourite hairspray. For added texture, apply JOICO Rise Up to the roots before styling.”
Boho Waves
“A firm favourite for festival season, boho beach waves will remain on trend for 2024.” according to Gill. “A style that works best on long hair clients, this look is all about embracing bohemian style; a care free effortless look. Pair with micro braids throughout the front of the hair – this style is fail safe and always on trend.”
Must-have products
When it comes to creating gorgeous festival hair, you need to have the right products both in salon and available for retail for your guests to pack with them. Here are some of Gill’s favourites and what she likes to use them for…
JOICO Weekend Hair – this is a festival staple to take with you. It absorbs excess oil and gives hair a new lease of life. Recommend your clients to use this on day two or three hair to refresh their style.
JOICO Zero Heat – perfect for clients who plan to wash their hair while they are away but won’t have access to heated styling tools. It works to reduce frizz and flyaways.
JOICO Rise Up – a tool to create limitless volume to last through a weekend at a festival. The perfect size for your clients to pop in their bag and apply as needed.
