Earth Day: Haircare brands that are leading the way

Happy Earth Day! It’s true, the significance of sustainability is becoming increasingly apparent (in all aspects of our lives). The choices we make as hair professionals has a profound impact on the health of our planet. It hasn’t gone unnoticed that the world of haircare is adjusting its mindset. Consumers are becoming more environmentally-conscious, and brands are stepping up to offer hard-working products. They must not only nourish our hair, but also nurture our planet. Let’s take a look at which brands are paving the way towards a greener future.

Authentic Beauty Concept

Authenticity, honesty, and transparency is part of the its core DNA. This brand is committed to continuously working on our packaging, ingredients, and initiatives to reflect the ongoing opportunity to be, and do, better. Significantly, the brand introduced refill stations into salons in 2020 to encourage the reduce, reuse, recycle model. Refilling fosters mindful consumption promotes a more sustainable approach to haircare.

Great Lengths

This is the first hair extension brand to achieve B Corp certification. We love their partnership with the Little Princess Trust. Once removed, extensions can be swerved away from landfill, and donated to the charity that makes wig for children.

Steve McManus, Founder of Leaf

Leaf

Scissor company, Leaf works hard to offset the steel production that is required to manufacture their scissors. The Leaf supply chain works with plastic-free packaging, but that’s not all… The company is on target to plant one millions trees by the end of 2025!

Schwarzkopf Professional

We are seeing positive movements from Schwarzkopf Professional. Importantly, they improving their existing lines. The biggest change we’re seeing is in their packaging. Schwarzkopf Professional is committed to using recycled plastic and recycled paper; aiming for packaging to be fully recyclable. A real positive movement.

Veganuary Aveda vegan haircare products

Aveda

With a long-standing commitment to environmental sustainability, Aveda has been a pioneer when it comes to eco-friendly haircare. The vegan brand uses organic ingredients and partners with local communities for sourcing. Every day is Earth day at Aveda.

Davines Village

Davines

Here is an Italian brand renowned for its dedication to sustainability and social responsibility. Davines is progressive in exploring, and developing ‘regenerative agriculture’ and prioritises renewable energy, zero-impact packaging, and biodiversity conservation. And early convert to B Corp status, Davines is earning accolades for its holistic approach to eco-consciousness.

Celebrating Earth Day Every Day

By making conscious choices about the products we use, we can contribute to a healthier planet and a brighter future for generations to come. Whether it’s opting for natural ingredients, supporting eco-friendly packaging initiatives, or championing brands that prioritise sustainability, every action we take has the power to make a difference. Let’s harness the spirit of Earth Day not just today, but every day!
