Prism Rainbow: ROAR Hair & Beauty celebrate Pride

Inclusivity isn’t a trend for ROAR Hair & Beauty; it’s the foundation of everything they do. From their gender-neutral pricing model to active participation in Glasgow Pride, ROAR has built a reputation as a salon group where self-expression is celebrated, individuality is embraced, and every guest is welcomed without limitations.

With the belief that the industry should be free from outdated conventions, ROAR Hair & Beauty ensures that every person, regardless of gender, identity, or background, is treated with respect.

“At ROAR, we celebrate Pride every day, not just once a year,” says Brian ‘Leo’ McCallum, owner of ROAR Hair & Beauty. “For me, as an LGBTQ+ business owner, inclusivity isn’t just a principle, it’s at the core of everything we do. It shapes the way we run our salons, train our teams, and connect with our clients.”

Prism Rainbow: A Statement in Colour

Drawing inspiration from Pride Month and the vibrant spirit of the LGBTQ community, ROAR created Prism Rainbow, an interpretation of the iconic Pride Flag.

Leo explains – “To create our striking Prism Rainbow, we began by pre-lightening the hair using Goldwell’s Light Dimension Silk to achieve a clean and even base. Once the hair was lightened, we applied a pink colour (Pk@all) at the regrowth area, utilising a precision merging technique for each section to ensure seamless transitions between colours.

For the rest of the colours, we used yy@all for the yellow, Gn@all mixed with Clear for the green, and combined Bl@all with VV@all for the blue. Finally, we achieved the raspberry ends using RV@all”

“Prism Rainbow is all about celebrating diversity, individuality, and the freedom to be unapologetically yourself. It represents unity and a reflection of ROARS’ commitment to fostering a fully inclusive and welcoming safe space while showcasing the artistry of hair as a powerful medium for self-expression,” explains Leo.

True Inclusivity: Pride Celebrated Every Single Day

“Inclusivity isn’t a trend, it’s a commitment,” says Leo. “At ROAR, we create spaces where self-expression is celebrated every single day, not just during Pride Month.”

“When ROAR first opened its doors, one of the first things we did was introduce gender-neutral pricing, because it should be about skill and creativity, not outdated assumptions about gender.” ROAR’s approach ensures pricing is based on technique, time, and complexity, reinforcing fairness in an industry where gender-based costs have long been the norm.

“Respecting pronouns is another essential part of how we connect with our clients, it’s a small but powerful step toward making people feel truly seen,” Leo adds. ROAR integrates pronoun awareness into their booking system and staff training, ensuring every guest truly feels acknowledged from the moment they walk through the door.

Additionally, ROAR actively supports LGBTQ+ organisations, participates in Glasgow Pride, and collaborates with groups that promote equality “True inclusivity goes beyond the salons; we are passionate about leveraging our platform to advocate for the community,” Leo explains.  “We are so proud to lead the way in creating a truly inclusive and welcoming environment for every client who walks through our doors.”
