NHBF visit Dora
NHBF Chief Executive Caroline Larissey visited Dora’s salon in Southport for a special presentation. Initially intended to celebrate what was thought to be Dora’s 50th year with the NHBF, the event uncovered a historic milestone: Dora’s membership actually extends beyond 60 years, setting a new record for the organisation.
“Meeting Dora Fletcher and hearing about her fabulous career first hand was truly an honour,” said Caroline Larissey. “Her journey is not just a personal achievement but a chronicle of how the hairdressing profession has evolved over the past six decades. The fact that she’s still working in her salon at 89 is nothing short of remarkable.”

During the visit, Dora shared a collection of memorabilia from her storied career, including a photograph from her 1962 Yorkshire Cup win—a coveted award in the hairdressing industry. This award, an emblem of her early accomplishments, is now a part of NHBF’s heritage collection and is displayed at the Federation’s headquarters.
“It was exciting to see Dora’s photograph with the Yorkshire Cup from 1961,” added Caroline Larissey. “Discovering her name on that very cup in my office after the visit created a tangible connection between her amazing achievement and our organisation’s history.”
Dora’s journey underscores the NHBF’s mission to champion the long-term career potential within the hairdressing profession and celebrate those who have dedicated their lives to the industry.
“Dora’s story serves as an inspiration to new entrants and a reminder of the rich heritage of British hairdressing,” Caroline Larissey concluded. “Her enduring commitment to her craft and her clients exemplifies the best of our industry.”
