Meet Unite Hair Ambassador Narad Kutowaroo

If you’re hot on celebrity hair or keep up to date with UNITE’s Runway Ready course, you’ll know Narad Kutowaroo, but if not, trust us, this a man who’s one to watch! We reached out to the UNITE Hair’s UK Ambassador to find out a bit more about his inspiring job and personality.

What does your role as UNITE Hair UK Ambassador involve?

My role involves working with UNITE products every day! Whenever I go out to a job, it’s the only product range I use on my clients. I also get to lead the UNITE Hair Team at Fashion Week which is great. I cover UNITE education in the UK including Runway Ready.

Tell us more about what your day to day in session styling looks like?

Everyday is different for me. I could be anywhere in the U.K. or even globally. I work across photo shoots, red carpet events, music videos – a huge range. I could be doing a number of things but no two days are the same and that’s what I like about it.

Narad on Instagram

Your Instagram account features beautiful imagery, what do you think makes a good image for Instagram?

I think your model is a good place to start. Making sure your model is up to your highest standards is important. In my images, it’s not just the hair that is doing the talking, there’s makeup and styling involved. Obviously photography is a big part so it’s very much a team effort. Many different elements get pulled together to create a good image.

What advice would you give to session stylists looking to kick start their career?

You can’t wait for it to come to you, you have to put yourself out there. Even at the level I’m at now, I still go out and work for nothing, get myself out there, fly myself out to countries. I always make myself available and I’m not afraid to learn from other stylists. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Some of the fantastic people I get to meet from either the UNITE Runway Ready course or just through the industry worry about the skill set they have but for an up and coming young hairdresser, I think having the get up and go and determination to succeed is so important, the rest can be taught.

Narad backstage

What can the team expect during LFW?

The team can expect to see a different working environment. A huge part of it is about turning up with the right attitude, it can be chaotic, but as long as you’re listening and paying attention we’ll never put you in a position where you feel uncomfortable. But that being said, there’s amazing opportunities to learn and you can really make the most of it to promote yourself and your business. It’s special for someone who thrives in a group of people that care about the same thing. A fantastic place for networking and meeting like minded people.

Talk us through your Go-To Hero products?

UNITE have five hairsprays all fantastic in their own way which is great for runway hair at Fashion Week. Another staple backstage is our EXPANDA Root Energizer, we use that a lot to create slick, wet looks – combined with SESSION MAX Hairspray, the hair isn’t going anywhere! You get a beautiful shine, but it’s solid as a rock so you can really build some shape. Another nice combo we use is our Hero product, TEXTURIZA Spray with SECOND Day which is great to create a lived-in texture. We have lots of products that highlight through the seasons, there will always be certain looks that lend themselves to specific products throughout the range.
