Another successful weekend for Unite at AW24 LFW. We headed backstage for their closing show – which, by the way was not your average behind the scenes set-up. Not only was this a duo-show for Melissa Kate and Size-A; but hair and makeup was a different venue to the show. Narad Kutawaroo and the rest of the Unite hair team began model prep at the JCA Academy they then travelled to The Point, Paddington for the show.
The hair team was made up with some of the Runway Ready students we met at the January course. It was great to catch up and find out how the experience was for them, Scott Cooper from Cross Cultural Curl Collective told us: “it’s been a great experience for me. It’s pushed me outside of my comfort zone and in the salon I only work with Afro and curly hair. Being on the hair team with Unite has allowed me to be creative with other hair textures.”
Melissa Kate
This season Melissa Kate was one of the few brands that represented curve at Fashion Week. Melissa wants her models to feel the best version of themselves as they walk down the runway. a label that strives for confidence, femininity and sexiness.
Hair and makeup was inspired by Melissa’s Liverpudlian roots. Full glam was in tact, hair was big and bouncy. Set in rollers and backcombed to achieve maximum ‘zhoosh.’
Size-A
‘Welcome to the world of Size-A’ – challenging the model stereotype, Size-A is determined for all heights to be accepted on the runway and in stores. Offering luxury clothing to instantly fit petite women. Size-A displays structured silhouettes and an oversized aesthetic in combination with adjustable features to convey the celebration of the ‘anti-fit.’
The hair? Strong and structured yet fun and playful. The team worked on models by creating 4 ponytails and braiding and tightly braiding elastic around the hair to create a sculpted look.
