Last week Schwarzkopf Professional kindly invited us to the launch of new range SESSION LABEL. An intimate get-together was hosted by the brand’s Global Styling Ambassador, Nick Irwin.

In a neon-lit, subterranean East London music venue to reflect Nick’s other passion – DJing – the fashion-forward launch saw industry professionals come together to learn more about the range and how it was developed; as well as hear insights on making it in the session world.

Joining Nick was his first assistant and session stylist in her own right, Ellie Bond. Together the duo were grilled by Schwarzkopf Professional’s Kay Brady, and shared their experiences of stepping away from behind the chair to work on shows and shoots, and answered questions from the audience on the new launches.

SESSION LABEL has recently been revamped and streamlined to produce a freshly curated line-up of 12 high-performance styling products. Developed by session stylists for guaranteed results, flexible applications and workable textures, the range is equally effective in the salon, where Schwarzkopf Professional recognises that clients are more clued up than ever on trending finishes and the products required to achieve them.

“My whole thing now is trying to bring the worlds of salon and session together more,” said Nick. “We need to change the way people think about hair and approach it differently. There’s a revolution happening in beauty because of social media – clients have a lot more knowledge and a better eye for the details that make up an image. They’re very aware of adding a personal touch to a style, and making it their own. That’s why it was so important for these products to work just as well in the salon as they do backstage or on set.”

The intuitive new range comprises dynamic, lightweight formulations, most of which are vegan, for endless styling possibilities without residue or overburdening. “In session you either use a lot of product or nothing at all,” explained Nick. “That’s why for us, the products being lightweight is so important. It’s not gunky or heavy, which means you can layer the products, and change the looks very quickly.”

SESSION LABEL’s packaging takes a minimalist approach with matte black packaging and straightforward product names that keep the focus on the product, while celebrating the craft. The packaging also features different coloured nozzles, for easy identification. “It’s ingenious,” said Nick. “Whether it’s a busy Saturday afternoon in the salon or you’re on set, the colour coding means you know which product you’re using at a glance.”
