Revolutionary water-based hair colour, Coloraqua, officially launched this autumn. The next generation salon colour is a clean, water-based formula that delivers vibrant, long-lasting results whilst caring for scalp and hair health. The product allows for salons and colourists to deliver several colour services with just one product without the need for multiple colour lines. Colourists can simply adapt the formula to suit the service they would like to provide whether it be a permanent colour, demi-permanent colour, or gloss service – one colour product for three colour segments. But how did Coloraqua come to life? We chat to Eddie Renda, Managing Director at JGR UK Distributions, Distributor for Coloraqua, to hear more of the story behind creating the innovative colour line that will allow colourists and salons to lead the future of colour.

Who is the revolutionary behind ‘Coloraqua’?
Coloraqua was created by leading Italian hair care brand, Nouvelle. With a history of over 30 years and distributed in more than 80 countries and 100% made in Italy following vegan friendly and sustainable formulative approaches, Nouvelle is the disruptive italian hair care brand that allows the hairdressers to distinguish themselves from the crowd.
Why was the name ‘Coloraqua’ chosen for this colour line?
The name ‘Coloraqua’ comes from the Latin word ‘aqua’ meaning water. Even though this colour has a green hue, it is an official shade of blue and it is a water-based dye, which made the word ‘aqua’ a perfect fit.

Why was there a need for a water-based hair dye?
There are not many water-based hair colour brands on the market and there are so many benefits to colour being water based – it allows for gentle hair colouring, improved hydration and enhanced shine. Being water based and free from harsh chemicals, the colour products are also better for sensitive skin and kind the scalp. Coloraqua is also deemed as ‘ultra-clean’ as the formula contains 94% natural ingredients whilst also being PPD, ammonia, resorcinol, silicones, and fragrance free.
At Nouvelle, Green Manufacturing is incredibly important too – creating products with the lowest possible impact on the planet. Coloraqua has a clean formula that’s eco-friendly with minimal impact on the environment and 40% of the energy used for manufacturing is from sustainable resources (solar). Despite Coloraqua having a water base, it also saves water all along the supply chain, requiring less water for manufacturing and reducing water usage in the salon.
All in all, there are so many benefits to the colour line being water based! For the manufacturer, salons/stylists, clients and the environment too.

What is different about Coloraqua to other water-based colours?
Colourists can achieve three different service types (permanent, semi-permanent, gloss toning) using the same core product line, eliminating the need to stock multiple separate lines for different service needs.
Coloraqua also has a customisable texture. By adding specific ‘Texture Developers’ (Juice, Gel, or Jam), the colourist can adapt the product’s consistency and performance for different applications, from a light liquid for soft toning to a dense cream for full grey coverage and lifting.

What’s next for Coloraqua in the UK?
We have some very exciting plans for Coloraqua in the UK! We want to shout loud and proud about this incredible line that is unlike anything else out there and we want colourists and salons to try the range and see how it can hugely benefit their work in the salon whilst saving them money on multiple colour lines too. We plan to work more with our teams to share more information on Coloraqua and we have some beautiful imagery that highlights the incredible colour results that can be achieved with the products too.
We are currently looking for ‘Coloraqua Salon Ambassadors’ salons who love colour and that would like to stock the revolutionary Coloraqua range alongside be exclusively trained by our UK Creative Director, Tracey Ann Smith, on how to use the product to create multiple techniques. It’s the chance for salons to pioneer the next era of colour and put their salon at the forefront of innovation.
