Winter can be tough on our hair. The cold, dry air zaps away moisture, leaving strands brittle, frizzy, and prone to breakage. But with a few simple tweaks to your routine, you can keep your hair looking and feeling its best all season long. Here are my go-to tips for healthy, hydrated hair and beards during the chilly months.
Upgrade to a Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner
Your hair needs extra hydration in winter, so swap out your usual products for a moisturising shampoo and conditioner. A good shampoo will gently cleanse without stripping away natural oils, while the conditioner seals the cuticle and locks in moisture. This helps prevent dryness, split ends, and breakage, keeping your hair stronger and softer.
Don’t Skip Regular Trims
Even in winter, trims are crucial for keeping your hair healthy. Regular cuts stop split ends before they spread, keeping your style fresh and your hair healthier overall. Plus, trimmed hair looks neater, fuller, and more polished. Depending on your style, a visit to your barber every three to four weeks will keep hair looking polished.
Wash Less Often
Washing your hair every other day (or even less often, depending on your hair type) lets your natural oils do their job; moisturising and protecting your hair and scalp. Over-washing can dry things out, which may cause your scalp to produce even more oil. Fine hair might still need more frequent washing, but curlier textures usually benefit from fewer wash days.
Show Your Beard Some Love
Keeping your beard hydrated throughout Winter is just as important as hair. Use lukewarm water instead of hot when washing to avoid stripping essential oils. Adding a beard oil or balm to your routine creates a protective layer that locks in moisture and keeps your beard soft. And don’t forget the occasional trim, it keeps everything tidy and helps prevent split ends.
