EP126 Cally Borg promotes work-life balance with a 4-day week

Cally Borg joins the Respectfully podcast to share with host Nicky Pope how hairdressers can achieve a better work-life balance. An advocate for working a 4-day week, Cally has reorganised her own way of working and enjoying a full family life with her young children and is keen to share how!

During the conversation, she explains what it means to run a lifestyle salon at her home, including employing and mentoring a small team. And also talks about how she offers a business coaching service for other hairdressers. Hers wasn’t always a smooth journey and in her conversations with Nicky, Cally is open about the challenges of working alone. She remains very supportive of the salon business model and the opportunities for being employed as well as those for being self employed. Cally’s outlook is super-interesting and well worth investing just 30 minutes in listening! [Thanks to Sta Studios in central London for hosting the podcast, too – great surroundings!]

Meet Cally Borg

An enthusiast for learning and trying new ventures, at a young age Cally took a break from working in a salon to discover more about bridal hairdressing. It gave her a taste for mixing periods of freelancing with working for great high-street salon names, including John Carne, Charles Worthington and Toni&Guy. She loved the flexibility of being able to pursue new avenues of learning and still hone her craft with a salon clientele. When growing a family this gave her the courage to pursue building a salon at home.

Today Cally runs a luxury, calm and professional home salon in Reigate, Surrey. She works behind the chair with her own clients, but also enjoys exciting and rewarding session styling work and has a great portfolio of credits to her name. Equally, business mentoring and championing the new way of working, including mindful and sustainable practices are a passion.
