Top 5 Hairstyles of 2021 from Emma Simmons

Emma Simmons, Owner of Salon 54 in Thirsk shares her top five styles of 2021 and how to wear them this party season.

Wavy Lob

The wavy lob has been a big hit this year, after lockdown we were eager to see sharp blunt fresh cut ends, hair that swings with every step giving that fresh styled feeling after months of drab dry ends. Going into the party season this shoulder skimming style works well as a classic bouncy blowdry with flicky ends, sophisticated and timeless. Use a large round brush to achieve root lift and curved lengths, add a spritz of shine spray for the ultimate glam finish.

Long hair

Long hair is by far the biggest trend we have seen in the salon this year, clients are really taking care of their hair and growing it into luscious lengths that are the envy of everyone, well groomed, healthy hair looks amazing long and its so versatile that when it comes to the party season there are so many styles to choose from. However, my ultimate fave is Hollywood waves, simple and beautiful, the elegant ripples really showcase healthy glossy hair. I love to use my Babyliss Pro Titanium Tong, Wrapping the hair in the same direction on each section, once cooled brush through with a natural bristle brush, wear a deep side part and a pearl Barrette and your party ready.

Curtain bangs

Curtain Bangs are still Bang on trend, no matter what length the style, be it bobbed, lobbed or long there’s a bang to suite every style and face shape. They update your look, frame the face, bring out the cheekbones and so much more, the longer outer edges of curtain bangs give a soft sultry look and are great teamed with an up style for the Christmas season. Leave soft tendrils skimming around the hair line for the sophisticated finish.

Blondes

Blondes are still having fun, although for this season we are softening the platinum and going for softer tones, like champagne, butterscotch and biscuit blondes. We’re seeing many of our blonde clients opting to have a darker shadow at the root too, meaning easier upkeep as well as updating their look for the autumn winter season. Rooted blondes give great definition and show texture beautifully, so if you’re heading to the office party create soft curls with a wand and you’re onto a winner.

The mullet

2021 saw the return of the mullet! All be it a softer version now named the “Shullet” Its a chic, modern take on the classic 80’s party in the back, business in the front style. The 2021 version is a mash up of the mullet and the shag, giving way to an uber cool new do worn by many celebs this year. its suitable for most hair textures, easy to style on a day to day basis, and can be coiffured into a flattering shape for a stylish look for the season. Miley Cyrus rocks the Shullet and shows how adding volume and texture glams up this versatile style.
