This is the year for Blue Tit salon group in London. A bonkers schedule of growth means they’ve just opened their 10th salon in London’s Portobello Rd (hard on the heels of Top Shop in Oxford street and Crouch Hill, East London). We’re loving the look of this latest premises – more geometric shapes, bold colour brights and graphic lines than we’ve seen previously, inspired by Bauhaus art we’re told.
Drawing inspiration from the latest Italian design trend for colour-blocking, Blue Tit Portobello is characterised by its eye-catching colourful interior. The foundation for this design concept has been laid through the salon’s contrasting coloured walls, flooring and furnishings. Cool, steely, blue-grey decor sits against rusty-red walls throughout the main section of the salon, with the former shade creating a light, airy vibe, and the opposing warmth of the latter bringing a sense of inclusion and privacy. The style of the salon’s stunning waiting area reinforces this theme for colour contradictions. Soft blush-hued walls are juxtaposed against a striking oversized piece of artwork in a graphic black and white striped print, while the addition of a plush forest-green velvet Chesterfield sofa and colour-coordinating foliage, brings an element of nature and comfort, creating a truly inviting entrance.
A feature wall in the backwash area displaying simple rows of graphic, square-shaped tiles in a glossy shade of aqua-blue, completes the eclectic colour scheme of the salon.
Sustainability and uniqueness are both central to the design of Blue Tit salons, and the interior of Blue Tit Portobello features both in abundance. The salon’s bespoke-designed reception desk, created by London-based designers Foresso, is tiled with a worktop, which has been imaginatively crafted from reclaimed wood, set in resin. The end result is an up-cycled piece of furniture that is unique, practical and beautiful, and that blends seamlessly into the colourful, modern style of the salon.
