ANTI Collective backstage at NYFW SS20

Backstage at the NYFW, ANTI Collective collaborated with emerging designers. Liam Hodges, Kaimin and LRS, resulting in three amazing shows for SS20.

Heightened individuality was the order of the day for the highly creative collaboration between hair stylist Takayoshi Tsukisawa and LRS – the concept of which was 70s and 80s London kids.

Takayoshi wanted to push the volume by creating ‘frizzle’ and ‘greasy textures’. A truly ‘buzzy label’ designed by Raul Solis, who cut his teeth at Proenza Schouler, made its debut just three years ago but has disrupted ready to wear across the globe.

“To create maximum volume, I used texture spray to the root, then brushed up and dried. For the ends of the hair, I used finishing cream to finish the textures,” said Takayoshi. “ANTI Shine spray was then used to create shine for final touch, but the texture spray was a real hero to create this ultra-lived-in London street kids look,” he added.

Takayoshi believes the collaboration with LRS can be used as a platform to speak out about things you stand for in the industry, or the world, in an effort to create positive change and lessen the ‘status quo.’

Kaimin

On the Kaimin runway, a South Korean designer – who has dressed the likes of Lady Gaga and Bjork – added a whole new dimension to the NYFW schedule.

Hair Director, Franco Gobbi, for ANTI Collective perfectly personified the elements of almost dysmorphia between human and animal. “The theme of Kaimin was mutation, so for me, mutation, coming from a cyber punk group such as Mutoyd Waste Company, it could have gone in a completely different direction,” Franco said.  He added: “The more conventional idea was to use plastic from other recycled products, but I chose animal as a hair-like human mutation – think Donny Darko.”

The hair look for this show was so much more than just linking the idea of the animalistic look to fashion. The first look embodied two very sharp cornrows with a middle parting creating a V-shape and wispy hair around the face, creating an owl-like affect. The second look was super long hair falling with parts wrapped around the neck creating a Harpy Eagle. Each look was mounted on the back of the model’s head, creating an optical illusion of a disappearing face.

One key product used for all looks was ANTI Styling Spray – It helped to create a beautiful and durable hold to all styles.

Incredible work team ANTI Collective. The is clearly one brand that knows no bounds.
