Dyson cleans up

We’re all musing on what the new norms will be as we dare to come out of hairdressing’s longest Lockdown! Our take is that it will be attention to personal needs, presenting a new perception of luxury and of course, excelling at customer service. All three can be summed up as comfort and safety – for the body and soul with Dyson.

Clean means safe

DysonEssentially, for every client, there must be a heightened focus on hygiene. From clean surfaces, to sanitised hair tools, respecting personal space to single use accessories… every moment the client spends with you must build confidence. This brings loyalty. This allows you to believe in a positive future for your business.

Be progressive

Don’t be afraid of change. Science and technology has so far proved our pathway out of the Covid pandemic. And it’s interesting now to see how such progressive thinking can be helpful in our industry. One name fast out of the blocks on reopening is Dyson. Pioneers for hairdressing tools including the highly regarded Dyson Supersonic™ professional hairdryer, the manufacturer adds to a range of fans and purifier sharing news of new purification technology engineered to tackle professional pollutants – from larger particulate matter like hair, make-up and pollen, to gases including VOCs from hairspray and airborne styling and cleaning products.

While investment is considerable, the pitch is compelling. The Dyson reveal reads:

The Dyson Pure Cool™ purifying fan captures 99.95% of particles the size of bacteria and viruses – as small as 0.1 microns – trapping them within a fully-sealed HEPA-13 filter. Intelligent sensing technology detects particle and gas pollution and automatically reacts to the changing environment. Once the machine detects the area is clean, it simply switches off, ready to recommence purifying should indoor conditions worsen. This functionality ensures cleaner air in a salon without stylists needing to divert attention from the tasks at hand.

This technology is perfect for balancing the advice to maintain your salon as well-ventilated ie doors and windows open, with the knowledge that roadside pollution (noise and dirt) can make your environment unpleasant, or even potentially unsafe health-wise as a place of work. Dyson cleans up, is the vibe. The manufacturer tells us, the Air Multiplier™ technology within Dyson purifiers projects clean airflow across the room, expertly mixing air for effective whole-room cleaning. Diffused mode delivers purification and air projection through the rear of the machine for purification without the cooling effect and without disrupting a single hair.

Secure thinking

And, while singing the praises of the Dyson fan, let’s cast a glance over to the Dyson hand-dryer. Dr Salome Giao, Dyson Senior Microbiologist and Scientist explains: “We know damp hands can transfer up to 1,000 times more bacteria than dry hands1, while wiping hands on clothes can jeopardise the hand washing process, as they can add bacteria to the washed hands if they are not clean2.”We know damp hands can transfer up to 1,000 times more bacteria than dry hands, while wiping hands on clothes can jeopardise the hand washing process, as they can add bacteria to the washed hands if they are not clean.

Using Dyson Airblade™ technology is one way to ensure hands are dried hygienically and quickly, particularly in shared salon washrooms. It’s not new, been around for over 15 years, but worth considering now if you’re up for a salon refit. Introducing touch-free technology (the Dyson Airblade™ is fitted with a HEPA filter as standard to helping prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses) will surely be a smart move.

And as we’re here offering our view, we’re loving another piece of genius from the inventor/manufacturer. Get this: a new Hair screw tool for your vacuum (Dyson again, of course) which features anti-tangle technology to pick up hair fast and without interruption. This is a neat, anti-tangle conical brush bar which spirals hair off the brush bar off the vaccum. Designed for human and pet hair, you’ll love it!
