EP28 – Sustainability with Melenie Tudor & Karine Jackson

Sustainability is such a hot topic right now, so we were super excited to welcome salon owners Melenie Tudor and Karine Jackson to the Respectfully kitchen this week to get the low-down. Discussing everything from the plight of orangatans in Borneo due to palm oil to offering an in-salon refill service, this pair are super passionate about saving our planet and ON IT when it comes to getting their teams on board.

Karine Jackson is a 2019 London Hairdresser of the Year nominee and owner of her eponymously-named salon. Since we can remember this eco-warrior has been flying the flag for sustainability. You go girl! Karine is joined by Melenie Tudor, owner of En Route Hair and Beauty in Wakefield, who is dedicated to encouraging her team and clients to become as eco-friendly as possible.

Here are 12 changes we can start making in our daily routine to become more sustainable:

  • Ban paper cups lined with plastic
  • Check your lunch box, bring your own lunch
  • Use glass water bottles not plastic
  • Bulk buying
  • How to recognise palm oil/read the label
  • Use Eco-friendly towels
  • Use LED lights
  • Reduce use of plastic
  • Reduce use of teabags (some contains plastic in the lining of the bags)
  • Use paper not foil
  • Switch electronics off, do not leave them on standby
  • Challenging yourself when ordering cleaning products
