Ep 83 – Neil Moodie talks about mental health and self-care with Nicky Pope

Hairstylist Neil Moodie has a well-deserved, great reputation for session styling having worked for 30+ years on editorial shoots and the most glamorous red-carpet hair. But he’s also a name in the field of mental health, having first spoken publicly in 2019 about his own battles with depression, anxiety and agoraphobia. In a no-holds barred conversation with Respectfully host Nicky Pope, Neil shares his hairdressing journey and his experience of poor mental health. They go on to discuss positive ways that hairdressers can both take care of their own wellbeing, and support clients who might need this, too.

It’s good to talk

Hosting his own podcast, ‘In bed with Neil Moodie’, which includes candid conversations with many of his favourite clients, Neil recently hosted a video podcast with guests award-winning charity founder, Tom Chapman, and model/TV presenter Rosie Tapner.  In the episode, aptly named ‘Minding the Gap – Male Suicide Awareness’, Neil speaks with Tom and Rosie about mental health.

“I first spoke out about my mental health issues in 2019 and emerging from the pandemic – where mental health has resonated with so many – I wanted to deliver something that addressed this vital topic. We’re entering into a new era and it’s so important that we do so with an open mind to help destigmatize mental health and suicide amongst men. You never know whose life can be saved from conversations like these.” – Neil Moodie
