Naomi Brooks joins Respectfully for an honest conversation about what happens when the passion that built your career begins to disappear. After more than 20 years in hairdressing, Naomi made the difficult decision to close her salon and step away from a way of working that was no longer serving her.
A leading session stylist, educator and respected expert in Afro and textured hair, Naomi has built a varied career spanning red carpets, advertising, television, editorial and backstage at fashion weeks. Her work has included brands such as River Island, Nike and Gymshark, alongside clients including Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Clara Amfo and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

In the podcast, Naomi talks openly about losing her spark for hair and recognising that something needed to change. By slowing down, reassessing her priorities and putting her wellbeing first, she has gradually found her creative flair again.
Education is there – but do people know about it?
Naomi and host Ellie Scott also discuss education around Afro and textured hair. It is a subject Naomi knows well…
She raises an interesting point… courses and qualifications covering Afro and textured hair do exist, but the information about where to find them is not always reaching students, parents or aspiring hairdressers.
Naomi talks about making existing pathways visible, accessible and clearly communicated.
