EP161: Alex Brownsell shares the story of Bleach and why she’s making colour accessible for home use

Alex Brownsell is a colourist, session stylist and business woman who is not afraid to challenge norms. Hers may not be a household name, but the brand she has created certainly is. Alex founded Bleach salon 16 years ago. A stand-out for being the first colour-only salon, remarkable from the outset. Then came the product line. Bleach London is a range of colour products and an ethos of teaching people how to colour hair at home. This, too, turned heads and continues to be much noted for educating the client on how to best achieve results in their own bathroom.

In the podcast, hosted by Nicky Pope, Alex shares her story of how she graduated from an apprenticeship at the cooler-than-cool Daniel Hersheson salon in central London to becoming a highly sought-after session stylist. While colour has her heart, so also enjoys working with artists, celebrities and designers world-wide. From Jerry Hall’s 70th birthday shoot for Vogue, to Bjork’s Brit awards look, plus collaborations with artist including FKA Twigs. Alex Brownsell enjoys the challenges of a fast-paced life on the road, married with days in the board room planning the growth of the product range. There are salons now in London and L.A.
