EP130 Anne Veck discusses being a woman in hairdressing

Anne Veck is multi-award-winning hairdresser and campaigner for sustainability. She’s spent years as a salon owner but now flies solo, working independently on projects and artistic endeavours as she pleases. Anne joined host Nicky Pope to talk about her career in hairdressing and to ponder on how much her experiences have been shaped specifically as she is a woman.

Does the industry offer different opportunities and career paths to women versus men? In this interesting conversation, Anne and Nicky talk about learning, competing and ageing in hairdressing! Anne talks about her newfound freedom and the joy of having creative time and choices after three decades+ in the UK industry.

Anne Veck: The campaigner

Today Anne Veck is an advocate for sustainability and mindfulness and education. She has shared concern for the impact ‘Ultra-Fast Fashion’ is having on our mental wellbeing. Drawing on her own experience of being a salon owner, employer and working hairdresser, Anne and her partner Keith have established several platforms for sharing their knowledge and inspiring change. Their RE:Source newsletters are sustainability toolkits for all hairdressers (scroll to access).
