#WorksForUs – Robert Eaton, Kerry Mather…

As part of our mini #WorksForUs campaign, we’re continuing our mission to share heart warming tales of team building and motivation from salons across the country. This week we’ve caught up with Robert Eaton of Russell Eaton Salons, KJM Salons’ owner Kerry Mather over Zoom and Sarah Morrissey from Sarai Hair and Beauty, to see what’s going down.

Hopefully they’ll be something here that will get you thinking, and your creative juices flowing. After all, it’s wise to remember that while this is a turbulent time with lots of uncertainty, it could also be an opportunity to ensure your team is fired up and ready to go when ‘this is all over’! Go on, we challenge you to be the best you can be. The team at Russell Eaton have been charged with calling their clients on a weekly basis, not only to check in on their wellbeing and offer support, but also as a social call to brighten up their day, which is especially important for those clients who may be living alone. (Loving you NHS Insta pic above too guys).

As well as making sure clients are happy, Team Eaton has been keeping in touch with weekly group video calls. Trainees have been continuing the education via virtual learning with their college and with the optional additional training with Head of Colour at Russell Eaton Leeds, Daniel Couch.

Kerry Mather and her team have been on fire with home deliveries of gloss mousse, root touch up, shampoos for their clients (they consider themselves the fourth emergency service!).

“The wellbeing and mental health of our team is paramount,” says Sarah. “Lisa Welsher our salon manager is trained in this area and provides group and one-to-one mentoring where necessary. I can already see that this is making us even tighter as a team. Lisa is also taking some new online courses in mentoring to come back to work with fresh ideas,” she adds.

Sarah has also have created a separate WhatsApp group for the NVQ trainees. Here they can share their practical work by sending in pictures and videos and she’s also emailed them with a personalised program of theory and practical work. This is connected to OneFile learning softwareso Sarah has access to their work, as an NVQ assessor. Sarah explains, “I set them tasks and we have one to one calls to discuss their work and progress. They’re all keen to keep the training up, so I’m doing this weekly or daily as required.”
