Tony Rizzo announces Trevor Sorbie MBE as the new worldwide honorary patron of the Alternative Hair Show. For those who donât know, the Alternative Hair Show raises money for Blood Cancer charities in the UK and overseas. Now in its 41st year the show has raised over ÂĢ14.5 million to date, an impressive feat. We look forward to seeing this incredibly inspiring work continue with Trevor Sorbie supporting Tony in flying the flag for all things Alternative!
As well as taking on the prestigious role of worldwide patron, Trevor will appear on stage this year, with his globally-renowned artistic team. Trevor says: âAs hairdressers, we crave any opportunity to take off the reins and have the freedom to creatively express ourselves. Thatâs what the Alternative Hair Show is all about.â

Tony says, âVidal Sassoon was our first worldwide honorary patron and there was nobody else in our view – or in Vidalâs – who would be more fitting to take over this title. Trevor is an icon, and we all look up to his achievements. Itâs a great honour to have someone of his stature on board. While heâs an incredible talent, heâs also humble, generous and still hungry to be creatively stretched. This marks a real spirit of excitement for us. We hope he enjoys being part of this unique, creative celebration of hair artistry.â
Trevor Sorbie
Taking up the story, Trevor gives us this: âWhen Tony first phoned and asked me if Iâd be interested in getting involved, I thought he was joking. To me this is an honour, a privilege, and an ambition, so I was thrilled and overjoyed to say yes. Iâm in my mid-70s now and they call this stage of life âthe golden yearsâ. Well, thatâs really what theyâre turning into.â
This yearâs extravaganza Alternative Hair Show is named âTapestryâ and will include the worldâs leading names alongside the new and future stars of hairdressing, marking the start of a new era. The show will take place at the Excel centre (where Salon International takes place), allowing a closer link with Salon International and making it easier for both UK and international visitors to attend. There will be more than one show a day; an early show at 4pm on Sunday, October 15th followed by a later one at 7pm.

International Visionary Award finals
The now globally famous International Visionary Award finals will return to a live section of the show, with its current three awards: Cut and Colour, Avant-Garde and Menâs. The Visionary Award, created by Alternative Hair president Anthony Mascolo, has proved a wonderful exposure of new and unknown talent and has thrilled audiences since the first year it was included in the running order.

Anthony Mascolo
Anthony says, âThe Visionary Awards give a platform for new talent to break boundaries in hairdressing. Itâs not what youâd normally see, and we always expect the unexpected.â As a former assistant to Trevor Sorbie, Anthony is also delighted to have this great name on board. âWhen you look at what Trevor has achieved and how he has changed hairdressing, he is the obvious choice for this role,â says Anthony. âHeâs known globally and heâs an inspiration to all of us in the hair industry.â
Trevor says, âWith this show, you canât predict what youâre going to see. There are people who will break rules and stick their neck out and thatâs what I canât wait for. I know Iâm going to be blown away.â
