Trendspotting: Return of the shag

Natasha Lyonne
Actress Natasha Lyonne in Netflix series Russian Doll

It was only a matter of time before the ‘LOB’ was kicked off it’s pedestal. But we have to admit, we weren’t expecting seventies classic, ‘the shag’ to be it’s replacement – but boy do we like it. For no longer is the style reserved for cool models and rock ‘n’ rollers who can totally pull off bouncy curls and a fringe swinging into their eyes. This time around there’s something for everyone, the layers are longer and more blended than before and it’s super feminine. Take a walk on the wild side

“The shag is definitely making a comeback,” insists Siobhan. “I update the style by not taking the layers too short. The shorter the layers, the more fine and whispy the ends will look.” She adds: “Balayage is still super popular with clients, so you want them to be able to wear the two together – seamless transition with colour means a seamless transition in layering.”

Shag-tastic

Declared by fashion and lifestyle site Refinery29 to be “the one haircut everyone’s asking for,” #shaghaircut has racked up nearly 30,000 posts on Instagram. So if they’re not already, get ready for an influx of clients wanting to infuse some shag into their next haircut. Here’s our pick of some favorite styles…
