Contrasting block placement is one of the key trends we’ll see coming through for Autumn according to Meg Piper, co-owner of Solstice Hair Studio. By applying high contrast colours to the hair you can create bespoke looks for your clients that lean into your inner creative whilst keeping a commercial element.
Colour blocking is a great way to introduce your clients to vivids if they are a bit nervous of going all the way. An easy colour block technique is a faceframe, it can really add an element of fun whilst keeping the rest of the hair natural. You can even use more than one colour for this, I love a split faceframe!
When using colour blocking think how much you want it on show and then how that will grow out, stripes along the parting look incredible but are they going to have longevity for your client? On the flip side panels underneath grow out beautifully but don’t have as much of a wow factor.
When planning out my colour blocking I always visualise the head in 4 quadrants (the same way we apply roots) and then decide if I want symmetry or not and then I can start placing the blocks accordingly.
Top tip: always apply slightly thicker sections to places where you really want the colour to pop!
When picking out our colour pallet I’m all about contrast! I love creating bold, vivid looks for my clients, using colours that traditionally clash, One of my favourites colour blocking combinations is orange and pink, two colours that don’t traditionally work well together but really create a statement look.
With this one it’s all about discovering your clients individual style, there are so many different techniques and colour combinations that you can use. You will find your style with this, but personally more is more with colour for me!
