Empowering women to shine in hairdressing

Shine
Shine

There was so much to see the first weekend in October in London, with Salon International in all its glory and so many stage events; it was a feast for the hairdressing senses. And a relief to notice the ladies getting some time in the spotlight for a change. Seriously folks, we are keen to see the women properly represented centre-stage – at times it seems there’s a bit too much man-spreading going on in the industry… #truestory!

Despite hugely outweighing the boys at intake/apprentice level, there seems to be a real shift by the time hairdressers are qualified and wanting to run salons, enter awards and truly grab their place in the headlines. We often find ourselves asking .. WHERE ARE ALL THE LEADING LADIES?

So, big up for the girls we spotted ourselves really showing off their skills. This isn’t an absolute list, but a nod to the empowerment of women in hairdressing. Hurrah for the likes of Tiziana and Mai at the Trevor Sorbie show, Tina Anderson for Tim Hartley at Noise and Live With…, Sally Brooks and Antoinette Beenders at the Tribu-te show, Tina Farey at Rush Live (actually Rush did excel with a big posse of girls on their stage), Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck for Toni&Guy, and Sylvia Salerno at Sassoon. Let’s all vow to give proper parity in time and focus to women in hairdressing. See them Shine in 2020.
