Anyone craving some motivation and a good dose of positivity? Well, here’s a lovely story about how award-winning hairdresser Tim Scott-Wright is still making time for his ‘Friday Ladies’ despite lockdown; going above and beyond with weekly calls for the women who have been going to him for decades!
Old habits die hard
Though his business is currently closed, Tim Scott-Wright, owner of The Hair Surgery inΒ Stourbridge, is still devoting his Fridays to a group of loyal clients – dubbed his Friday ladies – some of who have been having their hair done by Tim for 25 years! Tim and his Friday entourage still chat on the phone every week, with conversations ranging from a good old gossip to hair tips and advice. This is amazing, bravo, Tim!
Since opening in 2014, the former doctorβs surgery turned hair salon, has become more than just hairdressers for many of Timβs regular clients. It is a place where people can socialise and stay connected to their community. Despite the current restrictions, Tim is determined to offer the same level of community support as he usually would when his salon is open.
He says: βI loveΒ all my clients dearly, but my Friday ladies have been coming to me for their hair for years. They have followed my career and supported me every step of the way. I think the fact that we continue to stay in touch every Friday, is testament to how they feel about the salon. Yes, we cut hair, but weβre also a place that brings local people together to build long lasting relationships. It makes me very happy to know that I can support this need, even in lockdown.β
Julie Groves, one of Timβs Friday ladies, has had a hair appointment with Tim every Friday at 12.30 pm for 18 years! βI first met Tim 25 years ago when he was Umberto Gianniniβs protege in Stourbridgeβ said Julie. βHe was clearly destined to be an amazing hairdresser even then and I still get excited about being transformed every week! I am really missing my Friday βtreatβ and also seeing some of the other βFriday ladiesβ whom I have known for many years. I canβt wait to see Tim and all his team again very soonβ she says. How lovely is this?
Slowly preparing
Tim is one of the UKβs leading names in hairdressing, he is recognised with a host of industry awards and accolades. In 2005 he won the coveted title of Midlands Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards. His salon, The Hair Surgery has also picked up several awards including Hair Magazineβs Regional Salon of the Year and Creative Salon of the Year at the Salon Business Awards.
He is optimistic about reopening when the government instructs that it is safe to do so and is preparing for a busy few months, as his customers book in for their long overdue cuts and colours: βIn light of the recent Government announcement we are beginning to prepare for our return, but we understand that the salon experience will be very different, with a phased opening, socially distanced appointments and my team in PPE. It will feel strange, but our main priority is to keep our team and customers safe.β
