Following years of long waves and beautiful balayage, 2025 is the year of the cut! A chance for clients and consumers to delve deep into their own creativity and change up their look up. ‘The prop’ is the new haircut set to take salons by storm. Creative Director of Rush, Andy Heasman spills the beans on this hot new trend…
We will see lengths get shorter and cuts becoming more creative and edgy. A cross between a pixie and a crop style, the prop will quickly become an iconic statement, with more curved edges and blended layers. This new trend has evolved from the original pixie, worn by the like of Audrey Hepburn Halle Berry, proving that confidence truly is the best accessory, worn incredibly well by the two much loved names above.

What should they ask for?
When visiting their preferred salon or stylist and asking for ‘The Prop’ clients should ask for a longer length pixie crop, sharing references to their vision and chosen length. Hairdressers are very creative and visual people, therefore having a visual reference is key to helping us put your hair plan in place. Key things to cover during the consultation are; length, layers, lifestyle and maintenance. To achieve the look above, focus on a rounded pixie with disconnection.
Who can rock it?
The prop is extremely versatile and can work for every individual, with the cut being tailored to each individuals own face shape and working to the hairs natural texture. Those with a heart shaped or oval face shape will see the style turn heads more than others, with the curves and angular line working in tandem with the short, sharp cut. Likewise those with a round or long face can have the cut tailored in length and definition to flatter facial features.
Styling and maintenance
For those opting for this new on trend cut, it is extremely low maintenance and requires minimum styling – a win win! I would recommend using Goldwell Style Sign Dry Texture Spray, which adds subtle movement and a real natural, textured feel to the look. Likewise, if you are looking for a much more polished look, use a light hold pomade to mould the look and finish with a light spritz of Goldwell Stylesign Shine Spray.
