The Matrix rebooted

The Sean Hanna + Skyler London Awards were held online this week. Wow! They showed how far hairdressers have come with making awesome digital events. In previous years the company has thrown themed parties to celebrate their annual awards-giving; this year the fun moved onto Zoom with The Matrix film as a hook. A blue pill for Sean himself playing Neo perhaps? No fear!

The Matrix rebooted

The chance to applaud achievements is so important to building any strong team. Rarely have we seen it done in such cinematic style. Sean’s crew had pre-re-recorded (try saying that with a straight face) iconic scenes from The Matrix which you have to admire. Note: The fab film-maker Mandy Celine had clearly put her skills to use; she’s award-worthy, too, we say:

Production valued

A live presentation with co-hosts Skyler McDonald, Lloyd Court and Tomm Bucknell was strong on banter. And a peek behind the scenes confirmed how much effort had gone into making this happen. A high point was a short film from Sean looking back on how the company had coped with the past 12 months. It was just the right side of serious to pay tribute to the entire team, yet light and in keeping with the spirit of night. It has been a tough year for the team. And they really put the effort in to taking care of our guests whenever we’ve been able to open. So perhaps even more than ever, we felt it important to recognise the excellent work that they do. We wanted to make it a motivational and optimistic event. The team were also invited to enter our creative awards using dolly blocks and I have to say all the judges were super impressed with their work.” Sean Hanna
