We’re stoked at the response to our first ever LAB event held in London last night. A select, illustrious audience (including the likes of Jamie and Sally Brooks, Akin Konizi and Chris Foster) gathered to watch the line-up of 7 amazing speakers, each invited to share their passion and ideas with both the people gathered, and through Facebook Live and Instagram Live. Our format for this Learn ABout (hence the name LAB) evening is to give each guest 10 minutes to engage, enthralling and enthuse us on a favourite topic, innovation or concept. They didn’t disappoint. Lauren Stone, editor of Respect online, hosted with Mark Creed, eminent hairdresser and owner of Idlewild salons as compere. They each did a brilliant job [yay! Lauren… don’t blush]
A DIVERSE PROGRAMME
And how’s this for an imaginative line-up that pretty much embraces the wide and challenging world of UK hairdressing:
• Errol Douglas MBE talking about Instagram and how to keep your account personal and authentic, without being too revealing. He has nearly 43K followers on his @erroldouglas1 IG account • Mikey Pearson at Manifesto shared some of the reasoning behind his brand’s style of mens hairdressing (being as they’re so superbly successful) • Gina Conway is owner of London salons renowned for their luxe appeal – she revealed some of the ethos that keeps her ranking high • Stuart Roberts is the man behind Haircuts 4 Homeless and his highly emotional and utterly absorbing words moved us all hugely • Karen Lowe is owner of AKAProduction and a woman who knows all the possible best ways to deliver a top show • Robert Masciave is a salon owner with a reputation for avant-garde hair and a love for all things sci-fi – he challenged us to think about what the future brings with Artificial Intelligence innovations • Andrew Barton closed the evening on a high with a heartfelt message on the importance of salon-based hairdressing and how we must safeguard our community for the future.
