The cut of 2019

You guessed it – drumroll please – the bob is already being pitched as THE cut of the year. Nothing new, we know, but somehow this time around the chin-skimming version that’s bubbling up through Instagram, is both a refreshing nod to the Sassoon era and a modern update on a bold style.

The INNOluxe 2019 spring trend report confirms a rise in popularity for the chin-length chop. “We are seeing a huge increase in clients asking for chin-length bobs,” explains Melissa Timperley, Director at Melissa Salons.

“It’s a classic bob, cut to the lips with the fringe cut above the eyebrows, slightly longer at the temples, and blended into the lengths.”

But there’s a twist.

“You have to take the corner off or it just becomes a normal bob, which can be a bit harsh,” insists Melissa. “It’s a strong statement, and it shows that the person wearing it is confident and that their idea of femininity is not necessarily expressed by having long hair. The perfect example of this is Taylor LaShea.”

Ghd Ambassador Zoe Irwin supports the prediction. She agrees 2019 will see a shift away from the mid-length, boyfriend bob, to something shorter and more precise, half way between the ears and nape of the neck.

Stylist to the stars and man responsible for the Jennifer Anniston ‘Rachel Cut’, Chris Mcmillan, has even coined the chin-length bob #thenewshort. Check out the cut he recently created for actress and singer Emma Roberts (left).
