In a time of zero event action and very limited social interaction, we love seeing virtual activities that are well planned, organised and aim to bring our lovely community together and celebrate talent. Tribu-te Magazine has announced the winners of The Big One Trophy contest for 2020 and in a 30-minute Facebook Live we saw so many familiar faces, friends and colleagues share their excitement and applaud for each other. This is the second year of the UK edition of Tribu-te’s The Big One Trophy 2020, a competition well-established in Europe for 10 years. More than 250 great portfolios were submitted across seven categories; the finalists put up a close competition we speculate! It was amazing to see the enthusiasm, skill and range of creativity coming through in categories embracing commercial, editorial and experimental hairdressing, as well as for the salon design.
UK Publisher of Tribu-te magazine, Nicky Pope says: “This has been a coronacoaster of a year, and it’s been really uplifting to see our UK hairdressers continuing to be creative and challenge themselves with entries to The Big One.”
Key to this premium contest is that entrants didn’t need to shoot in a studio, or create specific collections of photography to show their skills. The Big One, says Tribu-te Magazine, is more interested in seeing how hair professionals work in the real world, and the range of skills, taste and imagination they possess in order to succeed both creatively and in the salon.
Notably paying respect to the surge in awareness for #blacklivesmatter this summer, the Tribu-te Magazine team renamed the erstwhile trophy The One For Texture as The One For Afro on the advice of their Black Advisory Panel.
Deciding the winners, a panel of 14 judges included leading hairdressers from UK salons, industry professionals from the three sponsor brands, and the global publishing team from Tribu-te magazine.

The Big One Trophy 2021 will be announced in July next year. Until then, congratulations to all the winners and Emmanuel Esteban for his double win, as he gathered the majority of the votes and he won THE BIG ONE 2020. You did an amazing job, guys, keep on inspiring and motivating us!
