Sheila Abrahams MBE

The MBE, announced in the King’s New Year Honours List, recognises Sheila Abrahams for her dedication to supporting freelance hairdressers nationwide. Sheila has played a pivotal role in fostering a sense of community, providing education, and advocating for the rights and interests of freelance hairdressers.

Freelance Hairdressers Association

Established in 1993, the Freelance Hairdressers Association has flourished under Sheila’s’ leadership, supporting thousands of freelance professionals. Sheila has been instrumental in creating a platform that empowers freelance hairdressers with resources and education. Sheila says:

Sheila says, “30 years ago, it was a dream. Now, it is reality. It has been a fantastic journey, and I would like to thank everyone who helped me through the years. I am delighted that professional freelancers are now where they should be: An integral part of our industry.”

An amazing effort

Sheila has advocated for freelancers, ensuring access to training, leading industry brands, professional development, and fair working conditions. Her efforts have elevated the status of freelance hairdressers and bridged the gap between industry brands wanting to target and work with freelance hairdressers. Importantly, Sheila has inspired a new generation of professionals to pursue their passion in a freelance capacity.

We hear Sheila will continue paving the way for a more inclusive, supportive, and recognised freelance hairdressing industry, so stay tuned!
