Rory Mason shares Barbie-looks

The team at Rory Antonio Hair & Beauty Lab celebrated the release of the Barbie film with a launch party, dressing up in their best Barbie and Ken styles. To further the celebration Rory Mason, at Rory Antonio, explains how you can get the Barbie-look for clients…

How to get the Barbie-look from Rory Mason…

Rory Mason

Rory Mason: Tape extensions are a great accessory for your clients looking to achieve Barbie’s long, luscious locks. They are quick, easily-applied and offer a great temporary solution to add length and volume. Top tip: Use a leave-in gloss oil spray, like the Kevin.Murphy Shimmer.Me Blonde Spray. This helps keep extensions moisturised, preventing frizz and split ends.

Help your clients achieve Barbie’s bright blonde by suggesting silver shampoo; but not too much of it! Suggest a silver shampoo followed by a hydrating shampoo to keep clients’ blonde hair beautiful and healthy.

Ensure your clients know to avoid protein-based products as they can cause dry hair to become even more dry and brittle. Instead, tell clients to look for moisture-based products. In-between bleach appointments ensure your clients know to visit the salon for a quick tone and treatment. This will help to maintain their colour and style.

For your clients who are fully embracing the barbiecore trend and opting for pink hair, don’t use a bond-builder while mixing the colour. This will create a barrier between the hair and the colour and your pink shade won’t last as long. Instead, use a metal detox shampoo, bleach, pink toner and then the bond-builder. To maintain the colour at home, your clients can use pink shampoos and conditioning masks but make sure they know which products will work best for their hair. You’re the expert!

Barbie has been a household name since the 50’s. She has been the pinnacle of beauty since the first time we saw her. We have adored her, complained that her body created unrealistic expectations and now we have made a movie of her. From the glamorous ‘red-carpet’ Barbie, to the ‘cooking at home’ with Barbie and even Barbie ‘goes rollerblading’ she has been a true icon.

In more recent years, Barbie has become more inclusive and fashioned gorgeous hairstyles and outfits from around the world. We all have that little bit of Barbie inside us and as hairdressers, we get to make our clients feel just as spectacular as the lady herself. I mean, we all had a Barbie doll at some point to play with; she was your first client.

Thanks to Rory Mason for sharing these tips so you can help clients achieve the Barbie-look. Hopefully this has given you a little inspiration to take back to the salon. You are sure to have a lot of clients wanting to replicate that gorgeous hair, especially after seeing the movie.
