Reds are set to remain a staple for AW24, with a variety of tones that cater to different styles and preferences. According to Sophie-Rose Goldsworthy from Goldsworthy’s, Swindon, deep, earthy reds like burgundy, mahogany, and chestnut are set to be popular, offering warmth and sophistication for the cooler months. “These shades add richness and depth and are perfect for a polished look,” she says.
For those seeking bolder options, vibrant coppers and fiery scarlets bring a dynamic energy to the classic red palette. Jewel-toned reds, such as ruby and garnet, will also be in demand, adding a luxurious, opulent touch ideal for the festive season.
“Overall, AW24 is about embracing the versatility of reds – from subtle, earthy hues to bold, vibrant tones – ensuring there’s a perfect red for everyone.”
Sophie’s top tips for reds
- Choose red shades that complement your complexion. Warmer skin tones pair well with copper and auburn, while cooler tones suit deeper burgundy or violet reds.
- Reds can be vibrant, but they also require healthy hair to look their best. Use nourishing treatments before and after your service to maintain shine and prevent fading. The L’Oreal Professionnel Absolut Repair Molecular series is perfect for this as it deeply repairs and strengthens the hair fibres, restoring the hairs elasticity and movement.
- Always book in for a proper consultation. Reds are bold and can be tricky to remove or correct. Ensure you and your stylist are on the same page about the desired outcome before starting.
- Reds tend to fade faster than other colours. Always opt for professional products for homecare, such as L’Oréal Professionnel’s Vitamino Color, which is designed to enhance longevity and vibrancy.
- My biggest tip is heat protection. Every client should be using some form of heat protection, this is the easiest and most important way to maintain hair condition and prevent colour fade which is essential with reds and coppers.
L’Oreal Professionnel’s TECNI Art PLI is my staple product to use and recommend as it is buildable and offers both heat protection and styling hold. My other go-to heat protection product would be the L’Oreal Professionnel Metal Detox Oil or Cream which I will go between depending on the hair type. Both products offer a beautiful shine, smoothing properties as well as heat protection and protection from damaging metals.
