One of the most hotly anticipated red carpets of the year returned on Sunday 27th March and it did not disappoint as the 2022 Oscars saw our favourite stars make us swoon with their fabulous Hollywood looks. The 94th Academy awards, hosted at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles brought all the glitz and glamour back as the star-studded guest list wowed us with a spectacular display of award-winning talent and show stopping style.
We caught up with some of our hair industry friends to get the low-down on how to ‘get the look’ for our favourite red carpet hair-do’s…
Jennifer Garner
The Oscars this year brought us old school Hollywood glam. Inanch Emir, renowned extensionist and creative director of Inanch, London shares how to get Jennifer Garners effortless look. “I love Jennifer’s simple and elegant; “Pretty Woman” look she went for this year. This look is suitable for so many occasions.” Sharing how to createt the look, Inanch says: “First use a volumising spray at the roots of your hair, then depending on your hair type either blow (if you have curly hair) or rough dry (if you have straight hair) and then with a large barrel, curl twist and wrap the hair around the barrel. Allow the hair to cool down before brushing out. Then use a small amount of styling gel to keep one side flat and behind the hair. Finish with a flexible hairspray to hold everything else in place.”
Vanessa Hudgens
Co-host for the evening – Vanessa Hudgens, wowed us in a slinky sequinned black cut-out dress. Sharing the steps to get her super chic twisted bun – Barry Maddocks, creative director of Haringtons says, “Vanessa’s sleek twisted bun is stunning, and super easy to achieve. First prep the hair with L’Oreal Professional Rebel Push up to give the hair extra grip. Once dried in put hair up in a simple high ponytail and spray with Hairspray to keep extra sleek. Split the ponytail into two and twist and pin in until you’ve got the desired shape. Finish with L’Oreal professional ring light shine spay for that high shine gloss.”
Kristen Stewart
Breaking all the red-carpet rules Kristen Stewart swapped the Hollywood glam for simply just being herself. Jemma Mewies, salon co-owner, Mewies & Co says “The wet look is so in right now and Kristen Stewart’s Oscars look is the perfect example of this trend.” Adding her top tips for recreating the look, she says: ”To recreate these chic wet waves start with damp hair, either towel dried or partially blow dried. Gently comb through to detangle then add your favourite texturising spray and mousse, ours are the Authentic Beauty Concept Nymph Salt Spray and Amplify Mousse, they’re vegan, cruelty free, lightweight and second to none on professional performance! Once you have applied a generous amount of product, create the desired shape, whether it be a deep parting, slicked back or central parting. Next, dry the product in slightly before shaping the hair for the desired final look, then, using a low and cool setting on your dryer, finish drying the hair – the low, cool setting helps to reduce frizz and is kinder to the hair. Lupita Nyong
Lupita Nyong’o pulled off an outstanding red carpet look. Anne Veck, owner of Anne Veck Oxford shares why she loves it. “Lupita hair takes braids to a whole new level… quite literally. I love this look because it’s the perfect example of how much fun you can have with Afro hair. It defies gravity and I love the intricate details of the braid intertwined within the hair style. The secret of this hairstyle is a strong foundation. Secure a ponytail on the crown of the head, make sure it’s in a diagonal line with the nose, this is always more pleasing to the eye. Then use a doughnut or two to add height and build the hairstyle from there finishing with a flexible hairspray for extra matte and hold.”
Timothée Chalamet
Anne Veck adds, “I love the effortless look Timothée Chalamet has gone for, that steps out the shower and ready to go is a big trend for men this year. Timothée has naturally wavy hair which definitely helps, but to create this at home you will need to work with the hair wet and a fantastic product to avoid freeze. I highly recommend Love Curl primer from Davines, this product is perfect for adding moisture to the curls without weighing them down.”
Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman
Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman brought a soft, casual vibe that we are totally loving. Christopher Laird, Director of November Collective says, “Zendaya’s Oscar’s look is the perfect representation of style and evolution. Her hair screams classic red-carpet glamour, while looking effortless and perfectly accentuating Zendaya’s delicate features.” Sharing how to get the look Chris adds, “To get the look, section the hair off and using the ghd thin curl wand, curl the hair before brushing out into soft fluffy waves which are then pinned up in a relaxed updo. Leave some tendrils loose at the front to softly frame the face. Finally spray with ghd perfect ending hairspray to ensure staying power.”
