#OpenChairNight by HairClubLive

Loving how an #OpenChairNight by HairClubLive took place this week at the vibrant Floripa bar in central, and was sponsored by American Crew. We rocked up and enjoyed a fabulous night of creative innovation…on a tiny stage but with immense energy. The #OpenChairNight invites stylists to shine, share and inspire in front of an eager crowd. Tunes pumping from the DJ and the popping bar created the perfect scenario for a party. The fun and creativity of #OpenChairNight was captured by photographer Mauro Carraro.

#OpenChairNight: how it works

Unfamiliar with #OpenChairNight? Here’s how it works: Stylists each have a 10-minute slot on stage to create a look on a live model. A set of traffic lights keeps time; when the lights go, orange stylists have one last minute and when they go red…times up. No need to narrate – this is a party after all. Only at the end of their time, can the stylist take the mic to talk about their finished look to the excited spectators. Or not if they prefer to let the hair do the talking.

We love that any hairdresser, any age and ability, can book their 10 minutes to ‘dare the chair’. No brief, anything goes. More accomplished hairdressers find it a challenge to stay quiet, others relish their first time in the spotlight without the pressure of talking as they work. It’s magic to watch.

American Crew

American Crew sponsored this edition of #OpenChairNight, with Ian Tucker, American Crew education manager UKI, acting as compere. Ian did a fabulous job engaging the crowd and commentating on each presenter who showed off impressive skills. We spotted him doing social media at the same time – respect to a multi-tasker!

Prizes…

The crowd was on the edge of their seats all night long. Looks from the night included a range of editorial, and commercial styles with eye-catching up-dos and creative colorwork on display! The American Crew team gave away some lust worthy spot prizes to presenters who stood out, gifting hoodies and goodies to…

  • Mikey Noir
  • Sylvain Gagliardi
  • Tom Forde

Sophia Hilton, Nicky Pope

#OpenChairNight is an event that doesn’t follow rules of formality. When Sophia Hilton spontaneously decided to have her hair cut by Dove Palmer, who is known for his precision cutting, things got even more exciting. They set up an extra chair and off they went. Sophia, owner of Not Another Salon and an IG start, says she had always wanted a mullet but lacked the bravery to do it. Now she got the look in front of a 100+ strong crowd. All part of the fun and spontaneity of #OpenChairNight

More OpenChairNights are planned, say HairClubLive. DM them for details
