This month Headmasters Careers & Education teams participated in the National Apprenticeship Show to encourage school leavers to pursue a career in hairdressing. The day-long event welcomed more than 3000 15–16-year-olds about to leave school to discover what apprenticeships are available. Bravo to Headmasters who flew the flag for hairdressing. It was quite some time-commitment but worth it as we’re all mindful of how important it is to champion career prospects in our industry.
The benefit of the National Apprenticeship Show
Headmasters headed down to Sandown Racecourse in Esher, where 50 exhibitors from different industries joined the event. The school leavers had the chance to meet people within the organisations, learn more about the sector, and learn what an apprenticeship involves.
Head of Apprentice Education, Charlotte Hayward, says “It is so important to have the opportunity to speak to young people about an apprenticeship in hairdressing and encourage the next generation of talent into the industry.”

The Headmasters’ team showed prospective hairdressers what a career in the industry could offer. We hear the team had a fabulous stand showing campaign images, hairdressing demos, a competition to win products and hair appointments. A selfie ring light offered a fun photo opportunity to entice the school leavers throughout the day.
“I hope we represented the industry well with our stand and with our enthusiasm for a career in hairdressing. We had many sign-ups from young people wanting more information and we hope that it will bring us in a great crop of new talent” says Charlotte.
Headmasters says it regularly recruits and trains around 200 apprentices a year! The brand is renowned for its excellent training programmes for apprentices and qualified, experienced stylists.
