Hair & Vision presents Let’s Talk Texture was the first Fellowship event of 2023 and held in Leeds. Sponsored by Avlon and Uberliss, here was an opportunity to bring an exciting subject to a packed audience eager to learn about Afro and textured hair.
Let’s talk Texture details
Fellowship President Robert Eaton welcomed everyone to the northern city and invited the presenting team on stage. Jacqui McIntosh led with stylists Brandon Messinger and Anthony Grant; together they demonstrated contemporary looks on opposing hair textures. Throughout the demonstration, Jacqui discussed different hair textures and the importance of understanding pH when relaxing, straightening or colouring hair.
The looks
The Fellowship describes each look as eye-catching and creative. Brandon delivered a short-textured cut featuring pastel colours. Anthony’s work was diverse, showing natural curls and the ‘Bubble Braid’, a look favoured by celebrities and influencers. Colour expert Claire Chell was next on stage and presented two beautifully coloured and styled models. The models showed a variation of soft, muted tones. Lathaniel Chambers joined Claire and presented two models with opposing textures. His first model had straightened and coloured hair, which he had dressed to show the tones ranging from orange at the roots to pale lavender on the ends. We hear his second model brought the audience to their feet to see how he created the knots which shaped her look. It sounds like there was a lot to see.
After the model presentation, Avlon general manager Graham Oakes thanked the team, the models and the audience. It was a truly wonderful evening, with both parties hoping to collaborate again in the future. “What a great evening,” Robert says. “To see so many people in Leeds tonight was fantastic, and to be able to introduce textured hair in all forms to them was inspirational. The feedback from the audience has been fantastic, and I’d like to thank Jacqui, Graham and the team for their support.”
The next Fellowship Hair & Vision is on 28th March at the Hunter Collective, London. Tickets available from the Fellowship website
