How to do Mocha Mousse

Pantone Colour of the Year - Mocha Mousse

Pantone Colour Of The Year is for our brunette girlies. ‘Mocha Mousse’… so yummy and plenty of scope to personalise it. Let’s see what some of our hairdressing friends think about it.

What they say

First up Suzie McGill, let’s hear what she has to say:

Mocha Mousse is a fabulous Pantone Colour of the Year, one that will revolutionise salon trends over the next while. Softer than previous Pantone’s, this to me oozes luxury and is adaptable in so many ways. Whether your client is looking for something much more subdued and softer or a more intense, deep head turning colour, this colour opens the doors to so many different options and formulations. Mocha Mousse itself is a soft, lightened brunette with very, very lightened traces of gorgeous golden hues throughout.” Suzie McGill, International Artistic Director, Rainbow Room International and Schwarzkopf Ambassador

A fabulous colour powerhouse, the Rush Colour Team is always high on our radar. Kirsty Judge tells us this:

“Mocha Mousse offers us as colourists the chance to experiment a little more, partnering different shades and tones to create our own interpretation of the colour trend for our clients. Traditionally, Mocha Mousse is perceived as a soft brunette, with a blend of two different shades to give a different dimension. Instead, as we progress into the new year, we will see this trend evolve with the addition of lighter panels as the seasons transition.” Kirsty Judge, RUSH Colour Team, RUSH Hair

A strong commentator on trends and a show presenter, too, Safy Burton is onto Mocha Mousse quickly:

Over the last couple of years, it has been fabulous to see some vibrant colours in there, but for the consumer this will be a big influence and trending request throughout the salons. Mocha Mousse is much more consumer led, which completely underpins the current landscape of trends and the way in which we as individuals are influenced. The new colour is subtle but luxurious, encompassing warmth and richness throughout.Safy Burton, Safy B Salon

Another salon owner with his eye on the forward trends, this is the Brian Leo McCallum perspective:

Mocha Mousse is a shade that feels uniquely timeless but also super relevant and on-trend. Much like its name ‘Mousse’ there is a lightness to this shade. It is a colour that can be used in so many ways which as a colourist is very exciting as it is full of possibilities – from a soft balayage to tonal highlights, there are so many options. Additionally, this colour will also work very well on different styles, whether its curls, waves or more sleek styles, the depth and shine from this type of shade makes hair look healthier and more luxurious. It is a dream shade for creating multi-dimensional looks.” Brian ‘Leo’ Mccallum from ROAR Hair & Beauty

A seasoned educator and award winner, Dan Spiller will be using trends in his salon and show work:

Dan Spiller: Mocha Mousse

Mocha mousse for me is the perfect balance of richness and warmth, it is a rich brunette shade but with warmer undertones bringing together a gorgeous multi-tonal dimension. What excites me the most about this colour is its versatility and the fact that this is such a flattering tone for a vast variety of skin tones – we are expecting this to be a hugely popular choice for clients in 2025! It is a timeless shade, and one which adds a touch of sophistication as well as a softness, overall, making it an incredibly flattering tone across the board.” Dan Spiller – JOICO EMEA Ambassador, and member of the JOICO Creative Team

From his years in London and now as a salon owner in Manchester area, Jamie Benny is building a clientele that is fashion-forward:

“With this shade being in the spotlight, it highlights the versatility and timelessness of brunettes. Mocha Mousse is a great reflection of the ways in which beauty trends have evolved recently, as it aligns well with the growing desire for authenticity in beauty. The shade has been described as a sense of ‘grounded luxury’ as combines a richness with an effortless and natural feel, it is all about balance, its refined yet exudes luxury without being over polished or unattainable.”  Jamie Benny – Benny & Co

And finally to one of the most accomplished interpreters of a colour trend, Tracey Ann Smith:

“Mocha Mousse sounds like a breath of fresh hair for me as a stylist, and it feels very much aligned with where fashion and beauty are right now. It gives a minimalist and natural vibe, which we are seeing everywhere currently, as there has been a real movement happening which leans towards embracing natural beauty and more earthy tones, and Mocha Mousse captures this perfectly. It is also a wonderfully healthy-looking shade which I know our clients will adore. Mocha Mousse is beautifully glossy, which as a result gives the appearance of healthy and vibrant looking hair, a great option if your hair is feeling a bit lackluster and in need of some TLC.”  Tracey Ann Smith – French & Ivy
