Green Friday

Ever heard of Green Friday? With Black Friday on the horizon, you may be wondering about the environmental implications of this consumer-focused event. Well, Gina Conway is an Aveda salon owner in Wimbledon and a sustainability enthusiast; here’s what she’s doing to celebrate Black Friday.

Gina Conway

At Gina Conway salon, Gina is hosting Green Friday instead of Black Friday and will give away “hair sprinkles” packets with every purchase. You may be wondering what “hair sprinkles” are. These are packets of hair cuttings which clients can use as plant feed. We love this idea.

More information

Gina’s salon was named Best Sustainable Salon in the Marie Claire Sustainability Awards and judge Millie Kendall OBE praised her as a “brilliant voice of the industry.”

Gina says: “Gift-giving should be a joyous experience, and we don’t want to make mindless panic purchases that end up in landfill. Our sustainable gifts are everyday luxuries that everyone needs. These include shampoos and bath oils from B-corp brands with organic ingredients and recycled/recyclable/refillable packaging.

“As part of our zero-to-landfill commitment, helping you celebrate this holiday season guilt-free, we’re also giving away cute little packets of cut hair. These can be sprinkled into pot plants, potted Christmas trees or onto the garden, nourishing and feeding the plants. Naturally occurring high levels of nitrogen is slowly released to the plant when it’s in the soil. The biodegradable packets we use are from a B-Corp UK-based company and can be curbside recycled or added to a compost bin as an excellent carbon source.”

You can find Gina Conway’s stunning eco-friendly salon in the Elys department store in Wimbledon. Here, Black Friday runs from November 24-27. Shoppers can bag 20% off all Gina’s hand-selected eco-friendly brands and up to 40% off limited lines, including some Aveda products and complimentary dry styling and prosecco at the Blow Dry Bar.
