Glamour at Golden Globes 2020

Just as the January blues threaten to loom, the Golden Globes arrive and shower us with glitz and glamour. Thank god for awards season!

As the first ceremony on the circuit, the Golden Globes sets the tone for the season ahead, historically predicting not only the winners, but the hair looks we’ll be wanting to replicate all year. There’s definitely a more relaxed, cool-girl vibe for the hair this time around, with a few Hollywood glamour statement styles thrown in for good measure obvs.

Golden Globes 2020
Margot Robbie, Zoey Deutch and Cate Blanchett

Girl next door

Toulsed waves and loose pieces were contrast with no-nonsense partings for 2020 to create a look that’s both low-key but strong. Boom! Margot Robbie commanded attention on the red carpet, looking every inch the modern-day blonde bombshell, with relaxed waves by stylist Bryce Scarlett, creating a gorgeous slept-in aesthetic. Brownie points to Zoey Deutch too, we can’t get enough of the subtle up-turned ends of her shiny auburn bob and Hollywood fave Cate Blanchett looked a dream with her whimsical, understated bun. Her style was the handiwork of hair supremo Robert Vetica, who finished Cate’s ethereal look with loose pieces of hair pulled out to frame her face.

Golden Globes 2020
Zoe Kravitz, Charlize Theron and Gugu Mbatha Raw

Pixie power

Reigning supreme was the pixie crop. Not for every face-shape of course, but when done right, this little beauty really packs a punch in the style stakes. First up is Zoe Kravitz; teamed with that stunning red lip, her super-short crop makes it timeless combination. We j’adore! Special mention must go to Charlize Theron too, seriously no one could pull off a page-boy crop quite like the South-African goddess – so soft and sleek. Finally, perhaps a little trick to try out with your curly haired clients is Gugu Mbatha Raw’s faux bob.

Golden Globes 2020
Jennifer Lopez

Glamour puss

With a celebrity client roster that includes Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian West and Katy Perry, British hairdresser Chris Appleton is no stranger to creating show-stopping hair looks but the over-sized braided bun that style queen Jennifer Lopez sported for the Golden Globes takes the crown. Intricate but enormous, it really is polished glamour at it’s best.

Golden Globes 2020
Rooney Mara and Thomasin McKenzie

All that sparkles

That sparkly New Year’s Eve party your clients’ went to may already be a distant memory, but the glittering hair is here to stay for 2020 it seems, as some of tinsel town’s rising stars sauntered along the red carpet adorning hair embellishments. Rooney Mara’s ornate, Princess Leia-esque buns definitely didn’t go unnoticed as didn’t Lucy Boynton’s crystal adorned headband. But for something a little more subtle check out Thomasin McKenzie’s sprinkling of tiny rhinestones in her relaxed bun.

Golden Globes 2020
Gwyneth Palthrow

Colour queens

Hair colour took on a more subtle guise for 2020, i.e. there was no Lady Gaga with her icy blue tones. Our top spot was good old Gwyneth Paltrow sporting her grey roots with pride!
