Golden Globes 2019

Halle Berry
                     Halle Berry

Awards season has arrived. And we all know what that means, a whole host of glamorous red carpet looks to take inspiration from, adapt and filter down to your salon clients. Kick starting the proceedings was the Golden Globes.

Now, if you’re anything like us, you were glued to the TV armed with a bowl of popcorn, ooo-ing and ahh-ing at the fancy frocks and array of hair looks – it’s clear that long hair is very much in vogue again, hallelujah! Even short-hair-siren Halle Berry was sporting longer lengths.

Gaga goes blue

Firstly, hats off to Lady Gaga who always pulls it out the bag in terms of standing out from the crowd, but last night it was for all the right reasons. We just loved her sculptural blue bun, which was a perfect shade match to her Valentino Couture gown. Jamie Lee Curtis went all matchy-matchy on us too with her cute icy pixie crop to complement her white Alexander McQueen ensemble.

Sandra Oh

Oh Sandra

Browny points definitely go to co-host of the evening, Sandra Oh, whose asymetrical waves gave a nod to old Hollywood. Her Faux bob was the handy work of stylist Ted Gibson who admits his inspiration came from actresses of the 30s and 40s. Thandie Newton too was definitely throwing it back to the past with her Studio-54 inspired textured afro.

Effortless beauty

Special mention must also go to the blonde bombshell of the night Julia Roberts for keeping it natural with effortless waves and Irina Shayk, who left her sleek bob cut to speak for itself. There were some fabulous updo’s too. Our favourites have to be Emily Blunt’s twisted and braided chignon and Amber Heard’s curly ‘do.

Finally, our report of the awards couldn’t be complete without a mention of THAT bow. Nicole Kidman, what were you thinking? We’re all for hair accessories but we’re sitting on the fence with that one. What did you think?
