Get the look with Jack Merrick Thirlway

For Yara Shoemaker’s Fall/Winter 2024 haute couture show, Neville Hair and Beauty’s creative director, Jack Merrick-Thirlway, designed an elegant hair look with a “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” vibe. This look features exaggerated volume reminiscent of the 60s, with flat, smooth sides for a modern touch, and a striking butterfly effect fringe to accentuate the eyes. The style is completed with a sleek ponytail twisted into a modern chignon.

Get the look

  1.  After washing and conditioning the hair, apply L’Oreal Professionnel TECNI Art Volume Lift to roots to enhance volume and L’Oreal Professionnel TECNI Art Pli Shaper through the hair for structure and hold.
  2. Blow dry the hair using a medium round brush for smoothness and lift. For added volume, use a small round brush at the crown area.
  3. Section the hair and wrap it around medium to large rollers, depending on the desired volume and curl size. Then put under a hood dryer for about 30 minutes to ensure the heat sets the curls perfectly.
  4. Remove rollers and backcomb the top and crown sections to create maximum volume. Smooth the surface with a fine brush to maintain volume without a messy look.
  5. Section off the hair on the sides from the top and crown area. Apply L’Oreal Professionnel TECNI Art Pli Shaper to the sides for a smooth base and hold.
  6. Use a flat brush and hairdryer to blow dry the sides flat against the head, then apply L’Oreal Professionnel Mythic Oil to add shine and prevent frizz.
  7. To create the Butterfly effect fringe, take a section of hair from the fringe ensuring it is centred and symmetrical. Apply L’Oreal Professionnel TECNI Art Pli Shaper and use a small round brush to blow dry, directing the hair away from the face and slightly upwards to create lift at the roots.
  8. Use the brush to create a slight outward flick at the ends of the fringe, forming a soft, winged shape that frames the eyes. Refine the shape with a flat iron on a low heat.
  9. Gently pulled the backcombed hair into a ponytail, ensuring the top and crown retains its volume.
  10. Keep the sides flat and smooth by brushing it tightly against the head, then secure the ponytail at the middle of the back of the head.
  11. To create the chignon, twist the ponytail around the base to form a chignon. Create either a sleek, tight chignon or a softer, more textured one ands secure.
  12. Blend the fringe with the voluminous top and crown, and tuck in any loose ends to shape the chignon.
  13. Apply L’Oreal Professionnel Mythic Oil for added shine and finish with hairspray for hold.
