Representing Respect For Hair, Nicky Pope (publisher of Tribu-te Magazine) was delighted to be invited to judge the trainee competition at multi-award-winning hair salon Headquarters, in Kingston-upon-Thames. Salon director Victor Pajak believes in making hairdressing education fun for his trainees! The concept for this month’s testing competition was Eurovision, ahead of Liverpool hosting the global event in May. Eight young trainee hairdressers participated in the challenge, enthusiastically embracing the iconic theme.

The Judges
The presentations were “amazing, a visual feast” according to the judges alongside Nicky. She was joined by Red Mane Media’s Ruth Hunsley, and Julie Allen of Jools PR.
“It’s so uplifting to see how enthusiastic and accomplished these trainees are,” says Nicky. “Some have only been hairdressing a matter of months, and the standard was high.”

The winners were announced as:
1st – Jade Dillon
2nd – Tilly Gibbs
3rd – Katelyn Vincent

Victor Pajak
Victor Pajak, Director of Headquarters, commented:“I’m delighted at how the guys took on the challenge, everyone researched the song contest theme so well, and the standard of work they presented was really impressive. At times I felt I was back in the 60s!”
Ruth Hunsley
After the evening, Ruth Hunsley shared her view: “It was great to see so much passion, talent and vision from the Headquarters stars of the future. They really put in a lot of work and thought about their mood boards, their overall look and their hairstyle. I was very impressed by the standard of work they were showcasing and Victor should be very proud of them.”
